Alex and Marcus

ALEX: (approaching Marcus hesitantly) Hey... I know you probably hate me.
MARCUS: (tuning guitar) Why would I hate you?
ALEX: Because I'm part of the problem. The code I write... it's replacing people like you.
MARCUS: (stopping tuning) Are you?
ALEX: Am I what?
MARCUS: Replacing me. Can your algorithms write a song about heartbreak? About missing someone? About... (gestures around coffee shop) all this?
ALEX: (thinking) No. They can analyze patterns in successful songs. Match chord progressions, predict hit potential. But write about heartbreak? (pause) They'd need to have hearts first.
MARCUS: So maybe the problem isn't the code. Maybe it's who decides how to use it.
ALEX: (realization dawning) What if... what if we could use technology to help people instead of replace them?
(This leads into "Human Code" duet about ethical technology)
